Ha aperto oggi, nel giorno del black friday, il nuovo centro commerciale ‘Maximo’ a Roma, zona Laurentina, a pochi passi dal Grande Raccordo Anulare. Migliaia di persone sono in fila da questa mattina per entrare da Primark (il primo store del marchio di abbigliamento low cost ad aprire nel Lazio) nonostante l’emergenza coronavirus.

Maximo shopping mall – with Rome’s first Primark store – opens today.

According to reports in local media, Rome police control the numbers of people entering the city center today as consumers seek to combine Black Friday sales with their Christmas shopping.

Police are set to concentrate on the city center’s main shopping streets, as they have done over the last two weekends, where Black Friday discount offers are expected to attract an influx of shoppers today.

Black Friday in Rome coincides with Maximo’s long-awaited inauguration, the capital’s third-largest shopping mall, including the city’s first Primark store, which opens today.

The 5,000-sqm Primark store will be 170 shops in the new three-story shopping center, located south of the city’s EUR district, between Via Laurentina and Via di Tor Pagnotta.

However, customers should note that, along with other shopping malls in Italy, Maximo will be closed at weekends in line with rules to prevent the spread of covid-19.
Rome embraces Black Friday sales.

Black Friday, the American custom dedicated to shopping at hugely-discounted prices the day after Thanksgiving, is rapidly catching on in Italy in recent years.

Black Friday, which this year falls on 27 November 2020, sees a growing number of Roman stores and online shops offering discounts in the lead up to Christmas.

The Monday following Black Friday – on 30 November 2020 – is Cyber Monday, a day dedicated to discounts in the technology sector.

The post-Christmas sales in Rome and the Lazio Region are scheduled for 5 January 2021.

2. In additional to stunning architecture, Apple’s expansion in Italy is significant because it brings a true flagship retail location to Rome for the first time. The greater Rome area is currently served by three stores: Porta di Roma, Euroma2, and RomaEst, Apple’s oldest store in Italy. All three locations are outside the city center and have yet to be updated with Apple’s latest design.

The closure of Apple RomaEst to make way for a greater experience on Via del Corso won’t come at the expense of lost jobs. Employees from RomaEst will be offered the opportunity to relocate to another location, and 120 new positions will be created for the new store.
Opening in Rome’s cultural epicenter with a store primed for the full Today at Apple experience will afford new opportunities for more enriching creative sessions and deeper ties to local artists and educators. The strategy has proved immensely successful at Apple Piazza Liberty, where free concerts and full Design Labs are routinely held.

Apple’s next retail store in Italy is coming soon to Via del Corso, the famous shopping street in the heart of Rome. The restored storefront will be Apple’s first to open in the country since Milan’s Apple Piazza Liberty in 2018.
Palazzo Marignoli is a historic structure dating back as far as the 1870s. The building is adjacent to Piazza di San Silvestro and within walking distance of significant ancient monuments like the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and Spanish Steps.

For a considerable portion of its existence, the building was home to Caffè Aragno, a popular coffee shop and gathering space. Today, the upper levels have been newly renovated as office space. Apple has restored the ground floor for its top store in Italy outside of Milan. The project is said to be a collaboration with architects Foster + Partners, an indication of the store’s magnitude.

Apple Via del Corso has been in the works for the better part of decade, with rumors stretching at least as far back as 2013. After appearing vacant for a considerable amount of time, extensive facade restoration at Palazzo Marignoli began in 2018 and extended into 2019. Apple’s Retail+People SVP Deirdre O’Brien confirmed the spring opening to La Repubblica:

Apple Store on Via del Corso will be one of the company's most important stores globally.

Apple, the American technology giant, is to open a flagship store in central Rome this spring, in what will become one of the most important Apple stores in the world.

The massive new venue will be added to Apple's two official sales outlets at Rome commercial centres Porta di Roma and Euroma2, but will see the US multinational close its store at RomaEst shopping centre.

However the company will transfer its employees from RomaEst, adding them to the additional 120 people it plans to hire for its new base in the heart of Rome's historic centre.

Apple Via del Corso

The exact address of the venue - to be known as "Apple Via del Corso" (minus the word "Store") will be Palazzo Marignoli, about halfway along Via del Corso, at number 184 to be precise.
The historic building has been completely redesigned by Foster + Partners, the British architectural firm also behind the revamp of Apple's other Italian flagship store, Piazza Liberty in Milan.

Rome's new Apple outlet is characterised by marble, large open spaces and high arches, and the renovation work was carried out with the approval of city's heritage authorities.

Global importance

The Via del Corso venue is reportedly destined to become one of the most important Apple sales outlets in Europe and the world, on a par with other prestigious Apple Stores such as the Carnegie Library in Washington DC, Champs Élysées in Paris and Covent Garden in London.

Cultural space

The new Rome store will not only sell Apple products and offer customer assistance - reports Il Messaggero - it will also be a cultural space, holding both technology workshops and live music events, similar to Milan's Piazza Liberty which held performances by artists such as Ludovico Einaudi in 2019.
